A 19th century Philippine santo of the Virgin Mary. She waits patiently while I search for the box that contains her carefully wrapped head. Unpacking creates strange vignettes.

I hope you all have the most wonderful day.❤️

This exquisite still-life looks like a photograph. Painted by Annie Snyder (1852-1927). She was not well known and did not receive acclaim, but there is no doubt she was master of her craft. Being an artist is HARD—for a plethora of reasons.

Support your local artists. Buy original art.

Saw this fantastic three-piece wooden sculpture at the Santa Barbara Museum and thought it would be great interpreted as an abstract painting. I imagine the artist would politely suggest I keep my day job. I love art museums.❤️

The work of Ernst Nay who studied with and befriended Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky argued that colors had the potential to vibrate the soul. Hmmm…

At Santa Barbara Art Museum.

Cloudy skies today in Santa Barbara, but it still feels like vacation to me. Can’t believe how this trip landed right in the middle of my house move, but I’ll take it.

Seize the day, friends!

At last! I will have a garden. Having our downtown condo home above the shop has been convenient, but I needed a little more room and some dirt beneath my feet. So…we found a little lime-washed brick cottage not far from the shop, and I’m as grateful as can be.

Shop reopens on September 28.

Thank you all for following along. Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, may your September be the perfect start to autumn. 🍁

And thank you to Scott Perret of Compass Real Estate for his help every step of the way.

While rushing to do a quick errand downtown yesterday, I slowed my pace to admire the glazed terra-cotta detail of the Times Square building, Seattle. I love how the architects placed these details at eye level, just for the pleasure of passersby.

Built in 1913 to house the Seattle Times newspaper. Designed by Bebb and Gould.

My packing paper on the table this morning somehow instantly put me in mind of the work of Lucio Fontana. The light and the shadow and the line just stopped me. Beauty everywhere.

Accidental vignette. I’m moving house, so it’s pack, pack, and pack some more. As I looked around this morning, thinking about what to pack next, I saw this chair that had been shoved aside looking artful in the mess.

Have a great day, everyone!
